Back From the Barracks: BTS Returns From Service to Face the Demons Who Stole Their Crown

Summer 2025 has marked the return of sunshine, flip flops, and the South Korean boy band, BTS. After completing their mandatory military service, all seven members have reemerged on the music scene. Naturally, their return was long-awaited, but the shocking news of a fictional boy band snatching one of their Spotify titles was waiting to greet them.

The animated Netflix Original film KPop Demon Hunters follows the story of two K-Pop groups: The Saja Boys (villians), and HUNTR/X (heroines). According to Spotify's chart, the Saja Boys’ song,Your Idol, broke records, becoming the highest charting K-Pop boy band in the U.S. It is currently sitting at No. 1 as of July 9, passing BTS’s song Dynamite that landed at No. 3 back in 2020. The fictional heroine group, HUNTR/X, followed right behind, slotting in at No. 2 with their song, Golden. Your Idol also found its way on the Billboard 200, slotting in at No. 8. While the Saja Boys failed in their universe, they might have won in real life, even getting BTS member Namjoon to sing Saja Boys’ Soda Pop on the band's first livestream back.

These five-time Grammy-nominated artists catapulted K-Pop to global recognition, breaking records and topping both Billboard and Spotify charts. With over 670 awards to their name --though some count closer to 1,400 depending on the criteria-- they are widely considered to be the biggest boy band in the world. While they were an unknown name when they first debuted back in 2013, they can no longer be overlooked. They are multi-talented and loved dearly by their fandom, ARMY. Before their two-year hiatus, they were selling out shows in arenas and stadiums across the world, while also taking turns debuting their solo careers. The seven members, Kim Seokjin (Jin), Min Yoongi (Suga), Jung Hoseok (J-Hope), Kim Namjoon (RM), Park Jimin (Jimin), Kim Taehyung (V), and Jeon Jungkook (Jungkook), each bring an individual style and captivating dances to their music and performances. They've also played a vital part in the success of HYBE Corporation (formerly known as Big Hit Entertainment Co.).

During BTS’ leave, it seemed as though people were in need of new entertainment. Now that they're back, it can be assumed that the ARMY will be working overtime to reclaim their crown. Each member is massively loved by their fandom to the point where writing this article is treading water under their watchful gaze. The good news? According to BTS's recent livestream, a new album is being prepared. Not only that, but their long-awaited return to the stage will be with a world tour in spring 2026.

A huge shout out to the Saja Boys for keeping the throne warm
