NeuroTok: How One Creator is Turning Neuroscience Into Engaging Online Content
Modern content creation takes continuous growth, adaptability, and perseverance in the face of failure. It can be difficult for creators to find a way to stand out among the noise, but one creator is blending brain science with short-form content to overcome each and every hurdle.
Davis Carbo, a content creator based in Atlanta, GA owns a training development agency built to educate companies. Passionate about education and entrepreneurship, he recently combined his skills to educate people on how understanding neuroscience can help them in their daily decision-making.
In January, Carbo began sharing content about his journey of growing his agency. His friends and family encouraged him to continue with his new content creation, telling him that posting every day would change his life. Carbo took on this challenge, posting on Instagram and TikTok about his background in neuroscience and education, waiting for his life to be changed.
Thirty videos in and Carbo wasn't seeing much growth on his platforms, so he went back to the drawing board and found inspiration in the Gen-Alpha brainrot videos found throughout TikTok. He realized he was always intrigued by the split screen videos where a story was narrated in one half while a visual aspect plays in the other. Carbo adopted this format and began posting videos explaining a neuroscience topic alongside a video to help the story move along.
After the format change, Carbo started a new series, the Unbiased Series, where Carbo discusses the cognitive biases that affect how we interact with ourselves, the world, and each other. He's already explained the IKEA Effect, the Authority Bias, and the Cheerleader Effect, and after gaining 200k followers from just this series alone, there's no question he will continue.
Even though his hard work is clearly paying off, Carbo continues to put in the same amount of effort as when he first started. He spends roughly three hours a day researching, filming, and editing his content.
“It’s a whole new job," he says.
For Carbo, content creation is a chance to learn new things and share his knowledge with his followers. Each video requires him to practice his research skills and memorize new information, presenting what he's learned in a way that resonates with his audience --and himself. His exploration of neuroscience has shown him just how big of an influence these biases have on us, a fact he plans to utilize in his own life.
