Vaughn Beatz's Creative Chaos: How Shower Thoughts Become Chart-Toppers

Vaughn Beatz is not an average artist. He meditates in the shower, believes in ghosts but is not scared of them, and turns a breakup into a hypnotic masterpiece. In a recent podcast, he opened up about his creative process, musical influences, and even shared his thoughts on ghosts and skinwalkers. Here’s a deep dive into Vaughn Beatz’s world.

Vaughn Beatz, the genre-blending artist, has a sound brought together by Lil Wayne’s lyricism, The Weeknd’s cinematic narratives, 6lack’s introspective R&B, Post Malone, and Jelly Roll. While it may seem that rap, hip hop, and R&B dominate his catalog, he has a secret guilty pleasure within his Spotify Wrapped: emo music. Beatz enjoys it due to the raw emotion behind it. Like many others, his least favorite music happens to be country, but even amidst that, he would never want to erase it. Why? Well, as Beatz states, "it brought meaning to someone,” and while it was not him, it still brought an emotion to someone who needed it or just enjoyed it at the time. This is also why he takes storytelling very seriously within his music.

Beatz has a passion for storytelling through music, but that starts with being present. By being present with himself, he can be in a state of meditation, which allows for ideas and lyrics to come to him. This natural flow has allowed him to transform heartache into art. After a breakup, he created the song Pain Was The Treasure, which tackles how, from the pain, there was a positive outcome. It helped change his mindset, and now Beatz strives to maintain his “glass-half-full approach” with everyday life. However, writing and creating music is not easy and comes with its challenges, his greatest obstacle being in his own way. Overthinking lyrics or second guessing releases stalls creativity, but he keeps trying, treating each song as a "chapter" of his life, each of which contribute to the story of his future.

What's next for Beatz? He wants to experiment with chill house EDM, with Afrobeat-inspired instrumentation, and wants to be able to heal through music, one day spreading awareness about mental health. He's currently working on a deeply personal album -- a full-circle story of his life featuring live instruments, and while there’s no set timeline for its release, his current discography can offer a glimpse into what's to come. Since Beatz believes every song is a moment -- a feeling, a story-- just like his evolution, it remains clear that his sound will always be uniquely and unapologetically his own.
